In the wake of Google's IPO, the Web continues to grow. E-commerce sales continue to rise (up 23% from last year) and Nielsen's NetRatings reports that "broadband connections for the first time reached 51 percent of the American online population at-home during the month of July (compared to 38 percent last year).
Of course not all growth is good: spam and fraud are more prevalent than ever as viruses and worms attack not only inboxes but also instant messengers and mobile phones. As a result, maintaining trust and safety online is critical to sustaining our current growth rates and Web interface designs need to do their part to educate, reassure, and support their users.
